Which was very irksome; but then I saw some <em>Rock Legends<\/em> episodes and the one on Roxy Music reminded me of the always-impressive longevity of Sonny\u2019s \u201cThe Beat Goes On\u201d as it appears in the Roxy Music song&#0160; from 1975 \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=0n3OepDn5GU\">Love is the Drug<\/a>.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Last month I posted a link to the article <a href=\"http:\/\/vegasseven.com\/2017\/02\/08\/seven-faces-cher\/\">The 7 Faces of Cher <\/a>&#0160;which does a wee bit of Cher scholarship in trying to categorize facets of Cher\u2019s career. This article does a similar thing: \u201c<a href=\"http:\/\/www.getintothis.co.uk\/2017\/03\/cher-ultimate-pop-icon\/\">Cher \u2013 the ultimate pop icon<\/a>\u201d from Getintothis, Beats, drones and rock &amp; roll.<\/p>\n<p>Some other good stuff:<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.inquisitr.com\/opinion\/4042655\/madonna-guns-n-roses-and-cher-had-best-songs-of-1989\/\">Madonna, Guns N Rose and Cher Had the Best Songs of 1989<\/a> (Inquisitr)<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/news\/lifestyle\/7710299\/lil-kim-pasties-cher-nicki-minaj\">5 Times Cher, Nicki Minaj &amp; Others Pulled Off Lil&#39; Kim&#39;s Pasties Look<\/a> (Billboard)<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/cherscholar.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef01bb098add51970d-popup\" onclick=\"window.open( this.href, &#39;_blank&#39;, &#39;width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0&#39; ); return false\" style=\"float: right;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Paul\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341d6c7753ef01bb098add51970d img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef01bb098add51970d-250wi.png?w=676&#038;ssl=1\" style=\"width: 250px; margin: 0px 0px 5px 5px;\" title=\"Paul\" \/><\/a>And <a href=\"https:\/\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/2017\/02\/bang-bang-anderson-cooper-lily-tomlin-and-cher-scarves.html\">when I last talked about the song \u201cBang Bang<\/a>,\u201d I forgot the whole reason I had brought the song up, which was coming across this album online, an album my parents had in their collection (of a few Paul Mauriat albums), 1967&#39;s masterpiece of covers, &quot;Blooming Hits&quot; which I was fascinated by because the woman is naked, painted and <em>gasp<\/em> not airbrushed! It also has a cover of the song &quot;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=ujlwSzyK6aI\">Mama<\/a>&quot; which is very proud of itself. According to the liner notes:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><em>\u201c[Mama] emerges as a musical distillation of the composition\u2026.the harpsichord is pleasantly evident, but there is also an incredible horn solo complete with scat riffs\u2026Hardly as Mr. Bono imagined, but nonetheless extremely successful.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n<p>Which lead me to this album, <em>More Mauriat<\/em>, from 1966 which has a cover of &quot;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=q6gjuAESBHk\">Bang Bang<\/a>.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Elevator music you can play in your own home!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I\u2019m reading 2016 issues of The New Yorker and came across a disparaging joke about Sonny in a satire piece about zen mantras.
