A few weeks ago Cher Scholar Dishy sent me the link to the Boston Globe<\/em> review of Dear Mom, Love Cher<\/em><\/a>. I thought two paragraphs were worth quoting. The review worries that the special is just an excuse for an infomercial to promote Georgia's new album but then the review goes on to say:<\/p>\n

But, oh whatever. \u201cDear Mom, Love Cher\u201d is an awfully sweet gesture,
\nwhich arrives on the eve of Mother\u2019s Day. Cher is a good daughter, and
\nit\u2019s pointless to resist her good will in sharing the spotlight and
\ngiving big public props to her mother. OK, so the rest of her family
\nlives in the shadow of the glitzy, bellowing, tart-mouthed, surgically
\nreconstituted, drag-queen-inspiring, bad-boy-loving,
\nfashion-forward-forward, farewell-tour-addicted, mononymous, unsinkable,
\nsympathetic, and always fabulous diva. We all live in the shadow of
\nCher, right?<\/em><\/p>\n

It\u2019s such a lovely thing \u2014 Cher helping her mother realize her dream
\nafter all these years \u2014 that I was able to let go of the special\u2019s
\nulterior motive. And Holt seems to enjoy and savor her moment, as the
\nthree women talk and laugh together in her honor. Her beauty shines
\nthrough. As a diva of a different stripe, Joni Mitchell, might put it,
\nin Holt\u2019s case, happiness is the best face lift.<\/em><\/p>\n
