\"Dumbo4\"<\/a> As part of my day job, I’ve been reading books on website usability, learning about how web surfers typically behave on websites and what they hate most. Some things used to big usability problems, but aren\u2019t so much anymore: for instance putting on a background of wallpaper that takes five minutes to download or putting up an \u201cunder construction\u201d sign. As it turns out, people hate that with at passion. But its not a modern usability issue anymore because rarely do designers still do it. <\/p>\n

Well, turns out one site is still doing it: The Official Cher Fan Club<\/a>. Mr. Nielsen of the Nielsen Norman Group, \u201cthe world\u2019s leading expert on web usability\u201d (according to his book jacket), says there\u2019s no \u201ccoming soon\u201d about it. <\/p>\n

You either have it or you don\u2019t. <\/p>\n

And the official fans have had that silly message posted for over a year now…which means: <\/p>\n

  1. \"Fanclub_2\"<\/a> They don\u2019t know the definition of soon.<\/li>\n
  2. They\u2019re probably waiting for Cher to do something which would be very frustrating if they\u2019ve been waiting like that for over a year.<\/li>\n
  3. They\u2019re officially dead to me, and <\/li>\n
  4. I completely missed my blog\u2019s one year anniversary! Happy Birthday, My Blog! I can\u2019t believe I\u2019ve been bullshitting about Cher for over a year. Time flies when you\u2019re blogging about celebrity obsession.  <\/li>\n<\/ol>\n

    Sometimes I feel there should be Cher usability studies for all the \u201ccoming soon\u201d rumors in her oeuvre. Mame<\/em>, Vegas, the next CD or movie rumors. <\/p>\n

    It\u2019s been a few days of weird gossip, actually: Sonny\u2019s son Chesare\u2019s rumored affair with Lindsey Lohan while in rehab (and strangely, it\u2019s not the Lohan angle of that story that bothers me most), no CD, no Vegas show. I think we\u2019re all just feeling restless for Cher product. Constant delays to current projects have prompted recent chattering on the Cher list that Cher might be seriously ill. Someone brought up the idea that she counseled Farrah Fawcett on cancer treatments in Germany because she had personal experience with said treatments. This is just a rumor, of course; but we\u2019re feeling preemptively sad about that kind of possibility. Like Sonny was Cher\u2019s Dumbo\u2019s Feather, for many fans, Cher is their Dumbo\u2019s Feather. \ud83d\ude41<\/p>\n
