I&#39;ve accumulated so many I need to start reading them to clear off a book shelf. Not all of them are my cup of tea so I usually attempt to read each story at least. If the writing doesn&#39;t grab me right away, I move on to another story or book. I keep the ones I really like.&#0160;<\/p>\n<p>So it came time to read this one,&#0160;<a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/dp\/B00OQSF610\/ref=dp-kindle-redirect?_encoding=UTF8&amp;btkr=1\"><em>Black Glass <\/em>by Karen Joy Fowler<\/a> and Cher was a prominent feature in the first three pages of the title story. Here are some screenshots. It&#39;s too much to retype.<\/p>\n<p>The story opens in a bar. The Cher part on page one reads:<\/p>\n<p>&quot;Rows of cut-glass decanters filled the shelves. Schilling ran his towel over their glass stoppers. In the corner, on the big screen, Cher danced and sang a song for the U.S. Navy. Schilling had the sound off.&quot;<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/.a\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef0264e2e4d82d200d-popup\" onclick=\"window.open( this.href, &#39;_blank&#39;, &#39;width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0&#39; ); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" width=\"676\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"20200623_083340\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341d6c7753ef0264e2e4d82d200d img-responsive\" height=\"590\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef0263e952bea3200b-pi.png?fit=676%2C590&#038;ssl=1\" style=\"width: 443px; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"20200623_083340\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>The reference on page two:&#0160;<\/p>\n<p>A drunk man comes in requesting booze. &quot;&#39;I don&#39;t have any money,&#39; said the man. Cher closed her eyes and opened her mouth.&quot;<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/.a\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef0263e952be66200b-popup\" onclick=\"window.open( this.href, &#39;_blank&#39;, &#39;width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0&#39; ); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" width=\"676\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"20200623_083448\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341d6c7753ef0263e952be66200b img-responsive\" height=\"601\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef0263e952bea7200b-pi.png?fit=676%2C601&#038;ssl=1\" style=\"width: 451px; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"20200623_083448\" \/><\/a>The reference on page three:<\/p>\n<p>People are drinking, minding their own business: &quot;A second shaft of sunlight appeared in the room, collided with the mirrored wall. Inside the sunlight, barely visible, Cher danced.&quot;<\/p>\n<p>Then &quot;a nightmare in the shape on an enormous post menopausal woman&quot; comes in holding a hatchet and a rock and she &quot;hit the big screen dead center with the rock. The screen cracked and smoked, make spitting noises, blackened.&quot;&#0160;<\/p>\n<p>End of Cher in the story.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"https:\/\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/.a\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef0263e952be81200b-popup\" onclick=\"window.open( this.href, &#39;_blank&#39;, &#39;width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0&#39; ); return false\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" width=\"676\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"20200623_083558\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341d6c7753ef0263e952be81200b img-responsive\" height=\"582\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef0263e952beab200b-pi.png?fit=676%2C582&#038;ssl=1\" style=\"width: 437px; display: block; margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;\" title=\"20200623_083558\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>This was actually nothing against Cher, this woman smashing the monitor. She was a Fire-and-Brimstone messenger come to scare the patrons over the evils of alcohol. After all the violence in the bar which runs for a few pages, we switch to a scene with a DEA agent and I lost interest here. I ended up not finishing any of the stories in the book.<\/p>\n<p>Sometimes when you have too many books, you gotta make some tough choices.&#0160;
