My parents came to stay with us for 5 weeks while waiting to move into a new house in Ohio. I\u2019ve also been taking stock of my writing projects and realized I\u2019m way behind in my self-imposed schedules. I don\u2019t know how this will effect the blog.<\/p>\n<p>But despite the big break, I\u2019ve still accumulated <em>so much good stuff to share<\/em>. I\u2019ve been working on some new scholarly projects that I\u2019m excited about and will unveil a few (on Cher Scholar and Big Bang Poetry) over the next few weeks.<\/p>\n<p>But as happens every summer, lots of Cher stuff has gone down.<\/p>\n<h4>American Horror Story<\/h4>\n<p>Chaz Bono has returned to the<em> American Horror Story<\/em> franchise this year as a one-armed Trump supporter and there are rumors that Cher will be making an appearance this season as well. When entertainment is that close to reality\u2026I\u2019m just a jellyfish I guess. There was an album in 2013 (<em>Closer To The Truth<\/em>), a contribution to the soundtrack of her 2010 film <em>Burlesque<\/em> (&quot;You Haven&#39;t Seen The Last of Me,&quot; by the acclaimed Diane Warren), a contribution to the documentary <em>Cries From Syria<\/em>, a duet with her mother, and a couple of unreleased collaboration (with Lady Gaga and Wu-Tang Clan). She has not been particularly prolific, and this might be considered her first dance floor jam in at least four years.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/news\/pride\/7934049\/gay-agenda-cher-trap-track-cakes-da-killa-twinkids\">Cher&#39;s New Trap Track<\/a> <a href=\"http:\/\/www.billboard.com\/articles\/news\/pride\/7934049\/gay-agenda-cher-trap-track-cakes-da-killa-twinkids\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cTo be a fly on the wall where this bonkers song was pitched to Cher&#8230; We\u2019re still not sure how this track came to fruition, but we\u2019re not complaining either: somehow the 71-year-old sells this campy trap song.\u201d&#0160;<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">Yes, I had to look it up. <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trap_music\">Trap is<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Trap_music\"><\/a>\u201csouthern hip hop with ominous lyrics, double or triple time divided hi-hats, heavy kick drums and a Roland TR-808 synthesizer or layered synthesizers.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.gaystarnews.com\/article\/chers-new-song-ooga-boo\/#gs.YwI6gvA\">Cher\u2019s bizarre new song is the catchiest thing you\u2019ll hear all day<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gaystarnews.com\/article\/chers-new-song-ooga-boo\/#gs.YwI6gvA\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cWe love Cher. Not only for her amazing back catalogue, her brave fashion choices or constant trolling of Donald Trump on Twitter, but also because she still has the ability to surprise us with her music\u201d and \u201cgloriously psychedelic video.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.idolator.com\/7667601\/cher-new-song-ooga-boo\">Cher Dropped A Demented Bop Called \u201cOoga Boo\u201d<\/a> <a href=\"https:\/\/www.idolator.com\/7667601\/cher-new-song-ooga-boo\"><\/a><\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cIt transcends traditional kiddie fare, however, with the demented electronic production, heavy lashings of auto tune and an annoyingly catchy chorus. He says it reminds him of a \u201cdrill sergeant in <em>Full Metal Jacket<\/em>\u201d or a mutated marshmallow. \u201cWhat the fridge am I even looking at!\u201d he cries. He likes the Boov characters and their bright, cold colors with flashes of hot yellows, oranges and reds but says the makeup is \u201ceven too much for a drag show.\u201d Too much are the comically huge eyelashes and fishnet leggings because the fishnet leggings are even on Chercophanie&#39;s ears. (I would agree with that; WTF.) But ElectricDragon505 will even give the designers a pass on all that. What he absolutely can\u2019t abide is a Boov wearing <em>three<\/em> bras because this forces questions about Boov anatomy that he just can\u2019t face.<\/p>\n<p>This all seemed like a great deal of news for an appearance on a Netflix children\u2019s show, so I did a search for her last un-released but kinda-released song from January and oddly there were zero news stories or reviews about \u201cPrayers for this World\u201d on two pages of Google results except <a href=\"http:\/\/gagadaily.com\/forums\/topic\/225552-cher-prayers-for-this-world\/\">this short blurb<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\">\u201cFirst new material since 2013 From a documentary that debuted recently, she is singing with the Los Angeles Children&#39;s choir. Absolutely amazing!\u201d<\/p>\n<p>My parents gifted us with Netflix. So I watched the Chercophanie episode last week.<\/p>\n<p>The show is about an interracial or inter-galaxy friendship between a spunky preteen black girl (Tip) and an alien Boov (Oh). The episode is called \u201cChercophanie\/Oh Man &amp; the Sea\u201d and it contains two 15 minute stories. I spent time bemoaning the short attention span of \u201cyoung people today\u201d as I was watching it and then realized I spent my own childhood binge watching 8-minute Loony Tunes cartoons.<\/p>\n<p>Tip is playing pretend rock star and her friend Oh is playing pretend obsessed fan. By the way, we never played pretend star\/fan back in the 70s. We played teacher, waitress, working single-mother, sordid soap-opera Fisher House community, salacious sex-life Barbie, TV news broadcaster, outdoor Missouri shipwreck, and novelist.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/cherscholar.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef01bb09c2a5e1970d-popup\" onclick=\"window.open( this.href, &#39;_blank&#39;, &#39;width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0&#39; ); return false\" style=\"float: right;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"DG1ewsoU0AAGmzY\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341d6c7753ef01bb09c2a5e1970d img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef01bb09c2a5e1970d-250wi.jpg?w=676&#038;ssl=1\" style=\"width: 250px; margin: 0px 0px 5px 5px;\" title=\"DG1ewsoU0AAGmzY\" \/><\/a>But anyway, Tip is full of artistic torment for fame and glory. Unfortunately, she feels a lack of desire to actually practice singing or guitar playing. But she wants legions of fans, like, yesterday! And she tries to make a big splash as a street singer. The humans hate her performances but the alien Boovs love it. By the way, all Boovs look like octopuses.<\/p>\n<p>Tip loves to talk about \u201cstar power\u201d and she calls her fans Tipsters. Cher descends into the scene as \u201ca true star who knows how to make an entrance.\u201d In fact, the show gives Cher\u2019s Boov character plenty of funny entrances. She\u2019s \u201ca cultural enigma\u201d they say but she\u2019s never given the chance to tell Tip and Oh what her true passion is. Spoiler alert: it involves whale-shaped Ooga Boos\u2026which finally explains Cher\u2019s new song then.<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/cherscholar.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef01b7c91f76f7970b-popup\" onclick=\"window.open( this.href, &#39;_blank&#39;, &#39;width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0&#39; ); return false\" style=\"float: right;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Starpower\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341d6c7753ef01b7c91f76f7970b img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef01b7c91f76f7970b-250wi.jpg?w=676&#038;ssl=1\" style=\"width: 250px; margin: 0px 0px 5px 5px;\" title=\"Starpower\" \/><\/a>But sadly, the public doesn\u2019t care about Chercophanie\u2019s passion and only wants to hear her \u201crockin voice.\u201d There\u2019s a very funny bit where Chercophanie cries and her massive mascara runs down her face. A makeup Boov rushes in to fix it. &#0160;<\/p>\n<p>Chercophanie calls Tip \u201cTwinkle Pie\u201d and takes Tip and Oh to her studio to hear her latest track, \u201cOoga Boo,\u201d and my parents left the closed-captioning on Netflix so I was able to decipher that confusing lyric: \u201cMoi a tu.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Tip is over-confident and when she finally hears herself play the guitar, she\u2019s mortified, even after Chercophanie tries some funny production magic. A few times I laughed out loud at this stuff: Boovs crowd surfing, Boovchella. During performances, Tip likes to yell out \u201chow many of you out there have faces?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><a class=\"asset-img-link\" href=\"http:\/\/cherscholar.typepad.com\/.a\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef01b7c91f7704970b-popup\" onclick=\"window.open( this.href, &#39;_blank&#39;, &#39;width=640,height=480,scrollbars=no,resizable=no,toolbar=no,directories=no,location=no,menubar=no,status=no,left=0,top=0&#39; ); return false\" style=\"float: right;\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" decoding=\"async\" alt=\"Cherwhale\" class=\"asset  asset-image at-xid-6a00d8341d6c7753ef01b7c91f7704970b img-responsive\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/cherscholar.com\/cherblog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2023\/02\/6a00d8341d6c7753ef01b7c91f7704970b-250wi.jpg?w=676&#038;ssl=1\" style=\"width: 250px; margin: 0px 0px 5px 5px;\" title=\"Cherwhale\" \/><\/a>Chercophanie tells her not to be worried about the reviews, just be you\u2026because following your heart is \u201cwhere you find true art.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Fans of Tip, of course, hate the result of that sort of advise and abandon her new direction.
