Hallelujah

Cohen I’m feeling under the weather this week so I’ll just leave you with just one question. I used to avoid Leonard Cohen songs because I thought he was so Chelsea Hotel. Then I fell in love with Jeff Buckley’s version of "Hallelujah." What was I thinking?

No, that’s not the question. The question is "Hallelujah." Could Cher pull it off? The soaring bird of its melody and its exciting silences. Snuff Garret once said Cher’s voice could cut through a cement orchestra.

Could it stand up to one lone piano?

Mary, I think you’re onto something here. And, while you’re considering Cher questions, how about this one: Would our lives seem more complete with a Cher disco remake of “What Now My Love”?

What a fascinating question this one is. I energetically believe that she could pull this off. I personally would love to hear Cher’s pure voice without all the electronics. Take a listen to It’s A Man’s World as there you discover her voice. Hallelujah!

Ooooh… I’d love that! Big fan of “Hallelujah.” And, incidentally, I’m a big fan of yours, too. I’ve been visiting your Cher Scholar site for years, and enjoy reading your blog.
