Cher Sighting & a Week in the Life of a Burlesque Actress

Party The interview of the cast from Entertainment Tonight

Cher commenting on her young co-stars:  She talked about working with such spunky starlets as 20-year old Christina Aguilera, 29 year-old Kristen Bell, and 21 year-old Julianne Hough.

“It’s a hard job. You get up at 5am and try to look good. All these girls are a third my age. That is rough.”

But she had good things to say about Aquilera:

“I’m shocked but she’s really good. The other day we were hamming it up so badly, so old, like vaudevillian. She was keeping up! She was hot. Her game is good.”

I wonder what the moves of Christina’s game are? Because Cher’s game is pretty good.

And likewise, Christina Loves Cher too(no surprise)  What about the reported feud?

"I love Cher and I never knew just how much before I made this movie. I have always had tremendous respect for her. She is a woman who did everything before anyone else did it," she says. "She is an icon and she inspired me through some of my career. We've had similar costumes too!"

Hmm…I don’t really like Cher’s costumes being compared to anyone else.

In Burlesque, Christina plays lead character Ali who escapes from a small town and heads to Los Angeles where she dances at a neo-burlesque club run by former dancer Tess, played by Cher.

Co-star Kristen Bell said she liked “the relaxed attitude adopted by the Cher on set”.

Kristen – who plays dancer Nikki – said: "Cher owns the club and we play best friends, I'm her lead dancer and Christina sort of comes in between the two of us and I'm not very happy about that! I could talk but I was definitely having to take a breath and I was going, 'I'm in a room with Cher right now', but she's so personable and down to earth, it's not really what you expect, she's very easy to be around."

LA Times has a funny spin on the love-fest of the movie set.

Can't we all get along a little less?

Don't get us wrong, we love good vibes among star casts — especially the cast that upcoming "Burlesque" boasts: Christina Aguilera, Cher, Stanley Tucci, "Twilight" hunk Cam Gigandet and Kristen Bell. "Entertainment Tonight" got the first sit-down with the bunch, currently shooting the project in Los Angeles, and it seems even the film's headlining divas are playing extremely nice.

"The other day we were hamming it up so badly … ," Cher said of a group scene. "She was hot, she was really up there, her game is good."

"Heroes" actress Bell, her normally blond 'do a nearly jet-black mane, says the legend is everything she expected and more. "You don't get to be more of an icon than she is, and there are very few people who have that status. She so delivers in every way," Bell said.

No screaming or sabotaging of costumes? No tears or measuring of trailers? Let's hope there's plenty of  drama on screen! — Matt Donnelly

Later, Cher was seen (as pictured above) at Quentin Taratino’s party at La Vida.

News: Cher Homes and Burlesque Leaks

A Cher-Renovated Home Sells

I wonder if these Cher-houses have some kind of Cher-seal on them (maybe over the front door). You know, like an Oprah-selected book.

Cher has auctioned her newly designed home at Hualalai Resort in Hawaii for $8.72 million. Cher bought the land in 2009 for $2.9 million. Ka-ching!

Burlesque Song Leak!

Christina_Aguilera_2006_pr From the paparazzi hanging around the movie production to the constant news stories on comments from the stars to the “leak” of this Christina song the week, hype about Burlesque is HOT. Is it just the accidental zeitgeist of a cast and storyline we love or is rather good public relations? Who knows.

In any case, here is a hodge-podge of online commentary that surrounded the leak:

“Spotlight,” a new track for the Burlesque soundtrack, made its way to YouTube in full today after floating around for about a week as a very short snippet.

The track has a retro, throw-back feel much like Aguilera’s last studio album, Back To Basics, with big horns and finger snaps throughout. She teases with one catchy line stringing the movie and song together: “Get your ass up, show me how you burlesque!”

It’s a throwback to the 40s, spiced with touches of jazz, pop, blues, swing, and big-band. It isn’t new ground for Aguilera like it was back in 2006. But her voice fits those stylized retro songs so well.

“Spotlight” does, however, pique our curiosity about Burlesque — what decade is it set in? Will the film’s soundtrack will span various musical genres (as did Christina’s last major movie vehicle, Moulin Rouge)?. In any case, we’re stoked for November 2010, the movie’s scheduled release date…

… people involved in the making of the soundtrack is top-notch producers Danja and Christopher "Tricky" Stewart as well as singer/songwriter Sia Furler.

Most of the song links posted yesterday have already been taken down after studio pressure. Far be it for me to incur the wrath of that big business. But here’s the bad news for them: in the Internet century, once something is out, it’s pretty much out for good…like a sneaky little moth, that's hard to catch and pretty soon you have a zillion baby moths all over.

Search, my Cher-fan comrades, and ye shall find.

Christina-cher-010710-2 First things first: Cher will be a presenter this Sunday on the Golden Globes: http://abcnews.go.com/Entertainment/wireStory?id=9511158

Don't miss it.

Next, there's very exciting news for Cher fans right now on the movie front.

Movies are coming! Movies are coming!

Let's take an inventory. According to imdb, Drop Out is still in pre-production and not much information has been assembled on it (hmmm–not good news.) But Zookeeper is already in post-production with a release date of Oct 8! Yipee!

And Burlesque is filming even as we speak.

Last week, film action was seen on the streets of Hollywood with pictures and video posted on the Internet immediately. It has the looks of unwanted paparazzi. Which brings us to an interesting point:  Cher is making movies now in the hyper-media blogging age. Filming a scene on the street now is hard to hide. Internet news cycles now provide near-real time sneak peaks into things.

I can’t imagine this scenario during the filming of Witches of Eastwick (by the way, what happenedWitches_of_eastwick_003 to this orgiastic scene from the movie? Does anybody ever wonder where this still came from?). As it turned out, I was visiting my brother in Massachusetts when Witches was soon to be in production there. The locals were the only ones who knew of upcoming filming dates because extras were being sought.  I don't know if filming ever happened there (people from Wicca created a fuss), but I felt like such an insider for knowing even that measly piece of information. Much has changed.

Here are many shots of Cher on Burlesque filming January 7:

What's your vote on that jacket?

Below is actual video from the filming:

The release date for Burlesque is November 24, which is earlier than the previous estimate of 2011. Let's hope everything goes well.

I just want to say…this movie is full of the beautiful people.

New Interview

Players Feeling out of the loop in Cher list news and down and tired in the midst of editing processional music in music editing software I was learning, I went to ebay for the first time in quite a while to cheer myself up with Cher goods.

Wait a minute. I just realized I’m looking for a break out of my wedding obsession with my celebrity obsession…that’s not good.

Sigh. It’s all relative I guess.

Anyway, I found some Caesars’ brochures and the new Caesars Players Vegas magazine out with a new Cher spread and interview. And it's the best new interview in a long while – great layout (although I miss a magazine's original Cher photos; why must they capitulate to using Cher's PR photos?).

The Chrome Hearts fashion label is again quoted prominently.

There's some good info here. Cher has an iPhone with some calendar feature where she seems to be adding spontaneous messages to Sonny. I wondered if this worked somewhat like a diary but I have yet to get my iPhone (can't wait!) so I'm not exactly sure what she was referring to.

Cher remembers that Chas helped the show behind the scenes during the last Caesars run of the late 70s. I remember pictures of her in the 1979 People Magazine looking quite helpful. Cher went to the gun range with her brother-in-law and fired a 9-millimeter and an automatic rifle, and that she likes to try things she’s afraid of. Which is a good thing. My bf talked me into taking a gun-firing class a few years ago. You never know when you’re going to need those odd skills. Cher wants to take tennis lessons too…all her friends play. She says she loved sports in school and was real tomboy.

To keep in shape it's weights, running, ballet, yoga, and the occasional hike on mountain trail with the aforementioned iPod. Cher loves to sing outdoors to the tunes of Springsteen, Bob Seger, Hall & Oats, “all the old people” she says.

The reporter states “the stage of her show in essence doubles as a runway.” And I think it helps to frame her show in this way. Which is why I feel Cher would be so awesome on Project Runway as a dual guest with Bob Mackie.

Cher says, “On a given night, a song will be more fun to sing or seem newer and I sort of forget I’ve done it hundreds of times.”

Their filmography of her does claim Drop Out in 2010 and Burlesque in 2011 (wah! Long wait). This confirms with JimmyDean posted a week or so back from his sleuthing at the Cher Store. Cher says she picked the film Drop Out because she loved its 14-year old humor…it made her laugh. She liked Tropic Thunder for the same reason.

The discography only covers Cher albums with the exception of the Allman and Woman album; and All I Really Want to Dois completely out of order, listed as her 3rd album in 1966. Backstage is called Cher Backstage. She delayed working on a new album because she chose to vacation during her last break.  Tough titties for us, huh?

Here another fun pics I found on ebay last weekend: the original late 70s Caesars program!

Zoo Film Controversy

Chers%20Elephant PETA Asks Stars Of “The Zookeeper” To Just Say No To Live Animals by Michael Parrish DuDell

With a name like The Zookeeper you know there’s bound to be trouble!

Yes, especially since Cher just attended a Zoo protest earlier this year. Maybe she plans to go all Trojan horse on the film with inside activism. Hmm…somehow I doubt this.

The film…has contracted the company Birds & Animals Unlimited to supply their animals for the shoot…and PETA is not happy. Turns out Birds & Animals Unlimited have received TONS of violations from the USDA and have quite the reputation. To help mend the situation, PETA has written a letter to the stars of the film saying: “Exotic animals used as involuntary ‘actors’ are routinely subjected to rigorous and abusive training methods to coerce them into performing acts that are stressful, uncomfortable, confusing and even painful.” The answer: PETA suggests using computer generated imagery.

Although PETA can sometimes make me cringe, I support their cause. I've done my time with anti-fur and Farm Sanctuary marching. Which is not to say I would be able to boycott this movie as easily as I am now able to boycott Whole Foods. I would still go to the movie even if they exploited animals to make it. I would just be forced to whine and complain about the abuse before and after the movie.

Hey…maybe they could recycle Cher's Farewell tour elephant…

Happy Day: Cher Movies!

Giraffe News is that the ink has been signed. Cher will play Tess, a former dancer who runs a burlesque club on Sunset Boulevard and Cher will be singing onscreen. The Cherlist tipped us off to the fact that  Burlesque (another on-word movie title for Cher) was written by and will be directed by Steve Antin, onetime boyfriend of David Geffen during the mid-to-late 1980s.

Here's a sweet quote from Variety:

Movie studio Screen Gem's president Clint Culpepper tells Variety, "She brings a soulfulness and gravitas to this character that will ground the story.

But wait, there's more! (Can you believe it?) Cher will also do voice work in the movie Zookepper – where she will play the character of a giraffe:

Variety released the names of actors set to voice animals in Happy Madison's 2010 live action comedy, The Zookeeper, which centers on zoo animals that try to convince a trainer to win back his dream woman. The list of actors on board: Adam Sandler, who will voice a capuchin monkey, Cher, a giraffe, Jon Favreau, a bear, Sylvester Stallone, a lion, and Judd Apatow, an elephant. Jim Breuer, Faizon Love and Bas Rutten will also lend their voices The film, which also stars Kevin James and Rosario Dawson, will begin shooting in late summer.

That’s just around the corner! I wonder if there's a Zoo-protest in the script and all the fur-people break out. I love the idea of Cher as a giraffe. I really do. I think I found a picture of one that really captures Cher's attitude, too.
