At its heart, Becoming Chaz is a love story. The relationship between Chaz and his girlfriend of 5 years, Jenny, is represented beautifully. Being the partner of someone going through such a difficult process is almost as difficult as going through it yourself, and Jenny, while wholeheartedly supportive, isnāt afraid to admit her fears and occasionally her anger with Chaz for changing (although the changes she refers to are in his manner and attitude, not his body)…
But the elephant in the room is Cher. Chaz is a public figure, but he wouldnāt be if he hadnāt been born Cherās daughter, and you canāt have a movie about Cherās daughter becoming a man without hearing form the woman herself. And when you do itās a little sad. Despite her reputation for being a gay icon and advocate, she is openly uncomfortable with Chazās transition and consistently refers to him as āherā during her interview. She admits to being afraid to go see him after his surgery, and while itās sad for both of them, it takes great courage for someone like Cher to admit that, and it proves to be one of the most poignant segments of the film.
Becoming Chaz is definitely worth seeing. Itās a fairly in-depth look at Chazās change and it will likely bring a lot more awareness to a subject that is still a mystery to many people. That said, it likely wouldnāt be the case if Chaz Bono werenāt the child of Sonny and Cher. The movie itself isnāt particularly groundbreaking when it comes to gender reassignment. I think I learned more about it on a 20/20 special I saw a few years ago. It just happens to be about someone who lives in the public eye, and that makes it seem more accessible to us. But regardless, Chaz, Jenny, Cher and their friends and family should be applauded for being so open and honest about subjects that any of us would find very difficult to deal with.

Cher and fans have been discussing Missouriās Puppy mill issue in her tweets lately. This got my attention because I was raised in St. Louis (mostly), and Missouri was then horrifically reported to be one of the biggest puppy mill abuse states in the country. So I followed this anti-puppy-mill vote closely last year. It was sponsored by the Humane Society of the United States.
Catching up to the legislative aftermath, it seems the Missouri legislature scaled the law back considerably in favor of law-abiding breeders and agricultural interests who claimed the "puppy" bill extended to far out toward other animal interests. God forbid!
Democrat Governor Jay Nixon seemed to be caught in the middle and was trying to broker a compromise between voters and the Missouri congress. The Human Society is against the compromise. Both sides appeared in Jefferson City to protest.

As long as I've been visiting and living in New Mexico, every time my family took the long drive up Highway 25, past Santa Fe and through Pecos and past Las Vegas, New Mexico (where we always stop to eat at El Rialto near the plaza) on our way to our family seat of the small town of Roy (where the Great Plains meet the Rockies), I'd always hear the story about how Greer Garson had a big house off the highway. Back when I was 17, I'd look off into the dark, dark New Mexico darkness and try to imagine this house. Every time we pass Pecos, the same story my Dad would tell about Greer Garson's house out there somewhere.
So I've moved here for a spell, as they say; and my relatives have been lamenting the rumor that the house and grounds had been sold off or destroyed. 
John and I live close to Pecos and John works with many Pecosites as a security guard. So we've visited to find hiking trails, indulge in their Dairy Queen and hear disparaging stories about one-time Cher boy-toy Val Kilmer (Pecosians don't care for him, it would seem) and to visit the Pecos Pueblo ruins and National Park, which we've been to now three times.
Much to my happy surprise, The Santa Fe Community College offered a continuing education tour of Pecos Pueblo, including Greer Garson's house! Whoo hoo! It's still there!
In fact, we were to find out, Greer Garson and her husband, Texas oilman Fogelson, owned so much property for their cattle raising, their land included the Pecos Pueblo. They donated the pueblo grounds to the National Parks service and Greer designed the small movie theater there to look like a Kiva and narrated the video about the site. (Ricardo Montelban does

When Fogelson died, Greer ended up with the house and half the property. Fogelson's son ended up with the other half, which he promptly sold to Val Kilmer and Jane Fonda (who locals seem to like).
Speaking of Jane Fonda, one of our elderly members on our tour still managed to say dismissive things about Jane Fonda due to her remarks about Vietnam. Her friend lightly defended Fonda, saying she has since apologized. I thought to myself, although Veterans still have a right to be pissed off about it, kids today donāt even know what that was all about. 
I told them that Fonda's latest workout DVD, Fit and Strong, is for old people and is still kicking my ass. I mean, I used to not like her because she could do aerobics better than me. That was before her titanium hip. Now I seem to like her much better.

I just saw Rio Bravo. John and I decided John Wayne is just a barrel with legs and arms. It wasn't our favorite western but we both thought Dean Martin was great in it. And I thought Ricky Nelson was good but John thought he was silly. Loved the scenes with Ricky and Dean singing together.
And the James Brooks night. He's my fav director of TV (Mary Tyler Moore Show) and film (Terms of Endearment and As Good As It Gets), although heās been a bit flat lately…and I've wanted to see Network.

There are many cool developments in Cher-tweet-land…Cher's eye view pictures being the best. It's like…could you do a tweet an autobiography?
Some ask, "Is it really Cher tweeting?" It doesn't seem too foolish to believe that she is. The tweets are honest, peppery, emotional and even occasionally humanly mundane…and contain a quality of vagueness beyond what an assistant or publicist would contribute.
That said, when folks criticize her spelling and grammar–it's ludicrous. Seriously, Twitter is the land of C U Ltr. It seems these people are just poking Cher with a stick is what that is all about.
Which is why when Cher asks: "If people don't like me then why not just stay away & follow who They Love?" and "I must b very naĆÆve cause I still donāt understand why people who donāt like me come here? Seems mean 4 no reason" My opinion: they come to get a rise out of Cherā¦which they are more likely to get with something negative than something positive.

Gregg Allman is contemplating a country album and Gwyneth Paltrow signed a recent deal to make a pop-country record, but here are four words country music never thought it would hear: Cher is going country!
The diva herself has hired Carrie Underwood and Lee Ann Womackās producer, Mark Bright, according to Digital Spy, and he is confirming that Cher is indeed recording a country album. Bright says, āCher knows that her listeners also listen to country music, so she felt it was a natural thing to develop a country music relationship.ā
Cher, of course, is not a total stranger to country. She was a presenter at the 2010 CMA Awards, getting a standing ovation by the likes of Tim McGraw, Keith Urban and Ronnie Dunn when she walked onstage. Taylor Swift was even seen throwing her arms enthusiastically into the air as Cher sauntered up to the mic.
The āIāve Got You Babeā singer reminded the audience that country runs deep in her family. When her mom was young, she sang with Bob Wills and the Texas Playboys. On the show, Cher said, āWhen I was about five, I thought there was only two kinds of music: the songs that were in āDumboā and āCinderellaā and country.ā She added, āThe first song my mom ever taught me was āHey Good Lookin,ā and my dear friend Merle Haggard and Iāve been talking about doing a duet forever, but I really have a hard time wrapping my head around āHaggard and Cher.āā
The last publicly reported time Cher was in Nashville was 2008, when she booked a private jet and came to Twang Town to see her good friend Haggard in concert at the Ryman. Later that night, a man was charged with disorderly conduct and public intoxication after he repeatedly harassed her at the legendary club Tootsies Orchid Lounge.
In 2009, Cher and her boyfriend were seen at a Haggard show in California. Her most recent brush with country music was to star in the movie āBurlesqueā alongside Julianne Hough earlier this year.

Cher is going country, according to famed Nashville producer Mark Bright. The studio veteran has added the pop culture icon to his impressive production resume, which includes albums by Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts, Reba McEntire and Sara Evans, just to name a few.
Mark met Cher through a mutual friend, Songwriters Hall of Fame member Desmond Child. "Because we know each other," Mark says, "when she came to Nashville she thought of me."
Although Cher has been tight-lipped about her foray into country music, Mark's confirmation offers hope to rabid fans who crave new music from the living legend. The new album would mark her first studio album since the release of 'Living Proof' in 2001.
I was actually kind of getting excited about a Cher country album; but then reports came out that this was all rumor (per usual).

As often happens once artists get into the studio, the direction shifts. Cher is now making a full-on dance record, according to her representative.
We contacted Cherās spokeswoman today to see if there were more details about Cherās country album with Nashville producer Mark Bright. Bright told the website Silk And Denim that he and Cher met each other through songwriter Desmond Child, who has written songs for Cher and who now spends much of his time in Nashville.
That interview ran in January, but for some reason, all the major websites picked up on it today. News that Cher was looking for country songs first surfaced last November.
Weāre waiting for more details about the new set and will add more when we get them, but Cherās rep tells us that although the country album was in the works, it "no longer is. It will be a dance-oriented album.ā
This all gives me a headache. I was actually psyched about some kind of musical departure. Another dance album isnāt going to turn the rock and roll world around. Donāt get me wrong: I love Cherās dance records. This isnāt about dance. Itās about country. Cherās voice is very soulful and soul and country are kissing cousins. Cher has never fully developed this natural inclination of her voice (think Elvis and country). It's so neo-hip, too. Just the thing I would love (like so many other thwarted Cher desires: a tourch ballad show, a full-fledged movie musical staring Cher).
